SBC pushrods- indent on top or bottom?

Im reusing my pushrods for a 5.7 rebuild. The pushrods all have indentations towards one end. Does this go to the top or the lifter side?

Sounds like where the pushrods have been rubbing on guide plates. May be time for new if they're very deep.

If it is a small identifier mark it means that it is the end that is to be run in the guideplate.
