sbc starter solenoid voltage

While cranking, I measure 9.5v at starter solenoid 's' terminal. Is that normal?

It would be. you have voltage drops between the battery to the solenoid "S" terminal. You have resistance in the connectors, fuse panel, switches and the wire itself. This circuit will give you the full 12V to the "s" terminal, and it's not for Chevelle only. Any GM car can benefit this.

It is normal for the voltage to drop while cranking. Is it the same at the battery. If so then your wiring is most likely ok. 9.5 is a little low, how old is the battery

My voltmeter (dakota digital) drops to 10volts while cranking, after the car has been sitting a month or so.

10.5 after that.

What seemed bad to me was that I got 9.5v at the solenoid 's' terminal even when I disabled the starter by removing the battery cable so all I hear is the solenoid click.

Thanks for the diagram lg1969.

Thanks for that info Bryan59EC.

T-bucket23, I haven't checked the voltage at the battery during cranking but I will. Thanks.
