How about one of those $400 LS engines and a single ebay bushinged 45gt turbo.

I think I would be interested in starting out with a eBay turbo, just to learn the basics about turbo charging, how to tune, etc, may not be as efficient as a turbonetics or a Borg Warner which my dream is to run a s400, but I think it's worth a shot to at least get my foot in the door on turbos. As long as I can play around with some ls powered cars, cause my fox body couldn't stand a chance lol

go to LS1 tech and scroll down to boosted applications... most on that thread build basic 5.3 ls engines with a gt45 turbo or similar.. some very nice ideas and suggestions to help get on the right track...
Reason LS can handle boost stock at 9:1 SCR is the camshaft profile and heads.. Also running EFI would help with your tune be a easier running a turbo but is not nessary... guys run carb application all the time... but if you go the carb route.. do yourself a favor and install a wide band o2 sensor.. that will save you alot of guess work and help you tune to help minmize your chances from getting into detonation with increase of cylinder pressure.. buying a carb get a blow through not a draw through carb setup for turbo application... thats just if you go a carb route.... another helpfull tip.. dont know what heads you plan on running, but keep your totall timing to 22-25 all in by 2500 rpm.. cam run about 220-228 @50 114-116 LSA turbo specifc camshaft... agian just suggestion to help ya a little, good comon sinse goes along way.. you know what i mean... good luck on your project |

My buddy has a 5.3 for 600 bucks, but that's my blow thru carb right there, I'll play around with the 350 for a while, the worst that can happen is it blows up, but hey most of the cash is in the turbo set up not the engine. I know it's gonna cost at least 1200 bucks for the 5.3 conversion. Yes a wide band is a must!

The bwd s400 good for a mild 350? I heard it was super heavy!

The little LS engine can be left stock , and handle 16 psi. They make about 600hp boosted with a t45 , and with not much more than a fuel pump.
I could not make that power with NA big blocks. In such a small , reliable, tight package too. |

Yes I know that's why it's so tempting! But I would still need injectors, motor mounts, stall converter, wiring harness, plus the turbo kit. That's more $$$$ lol but the streetability and reliability and mpg is worth it. But me lol I don't care about that stuff as long as its streetable...

600-800 bucks. I think there's that hangar 18 conversion kit that's cheaper then buying a blow thru.

Guy telling me how blowers suck like my in truck, and how turbos are awesome. Showed me his DIY turbo 3.1L corsica, and a single 3/4t turbo feeds it . Car was fast though, never guess it from the outside, or in.
It also was his oppinion the LS v8 rotates the earth at its core. |
