SBC Water Pump Question?

Tonight I was out working on the ride, I ran it for about 30 min. While in there I noticed I have a long pump installed, like I stated before I don't know Chevy's like I should but I'm learning. I can see why they used the long pump to get the fan in the proper position for the radiator fan. When I get my fan shroud installed would it be worth it to go with the short pump? I was looking at some of the serpintine conversion kits and it seemed most used the short pump.

Regards
Mark
