I dig them all, even the ones I don't "like" I like the idea that they tried, I am not fond of the super crazy ones like the Firebird but man the more conservative ones, I love them all. The whole GM Motorama scene was wild, it was like a rock concert tour, amazing stuff. I have a number of original stuff from them. A girl friend back in highschool giving me a brass key Chain fob from the 1956 show started me on my life long love of the Motoramas.

One of the things about the Motorama that floors me is they held one every year right up the bay from me in SF. I never knew this until a few years ago. I learned of it after my dad passed away and don't remember him ever talking about them. Now the thing is he was a Buick salesman the last five or so years of the Motoramas starting in 57. I have some photos of him out with a bunch of guys from the dealership in an SF upscale restaurant and wonder if this was at one of these shows? I will never know.

That is one thing I do miss about cars these days and all of the promotional stuff they used to come out with. Back in the day when a new model year of cars came out, even in the small town that I grew up in we could hardly wait for the day of the yearly car show. I remember a family friend that owned a Pontiac dealership and in late 1966 I asked him what Pontiac was going to do for 67. He told me that they where coming out with a car would take take the sting out of the Stingray, the cam out of the Camaro, the tang out of the Mustang, the bear out of the Barracuda and even take a cut out of the Cutlass...I was 11 years old and never forgot that. Because the Firebird never came out until later, it never made the November 1966 car show in my small town...but for a small town dealership, this man built his own hype and sold a pile of Firebirds.
We just don't seem to have the flair anymore that they had in the 50's and 60's. Ray |

The pictures of your shop are very similar to pictures I have seen in a friends scrap books. I worked with an old hot rodder for two years until he closed his shop like 6 months ago. Terry Berzenye is his name, he started in 1958 and worked until late last year. Great pictures, they are from an era that unfortunately no longer exists. I had the opportunity to sit and discuss how it was early on.

It still exists Bill, just not at my shop.
Nope, there are many many shops around the country still building rods and customs, nothing has died but some of the shops like mine and your buddies. Brian |

Brian, I did an engine swap for him putting a 350 with th in an old Cord replica. It was the weirdest thing I ever worked on but we did a mustang 2 with a 8 inch rear end, discs etc etc. When it was at ride height I said hey Terry are you gonna call the driveshaft guy and he said " I'm right here" he had a drawer with all types of yokes and flanges so we took the old one, put it in his lathe and made one for the car. I really enjoyed working in a shop that just made whatever was needed. He had a mill, lathe and mostly every other tool around. He is 74 yrs now. Oh yes, the car ran and drove really well.
