Check the SCCA web sit for Vintage Road Racing Class info. There is an active vintage racing program. This class has a lot of 1st gen Camaros and mustangs. They should have quite a few 1st Gens in the raceing galleries and related link sites for actual teams. A race schedual for Texas Motor Speedway should also have info on the vintage race schedule and possible links that may help you.

Hemmings Muscle Machines just did an article on the trans am series, it's kind of general info but if you like, pm me and I'll mail it to you. Dan

Great idea
I like this one and one of these would make great street car..
Ok build a 301 engine..327 block with 283 crank and rods..Venolia pistons..Isky roller cam..probably a Edelbrock torker manifold and a four barrel..Go ahead with an Msd ignition..We certainly woudl have used some edelbrock heads if we had them at the time..we did use the 2.02 intakes heads.. Super t-10 tranny..12 bolt rear.. Finding the RPO MA6 clutch woudl be way cool..(The originals had a dual disk clutch) Little known option but it did exist.. Four wheel disk brakes..was another factory option.. Of course a SCCA approved roll cage..race belts..no back seat..really bare interior..Engine and road sounds are all the good sounds one needs in one of these.. Fuel cell..race type.. Lemme see what else can I remember from 40 years ago that was in these cars.. Ah lite fiberglass hood and fenders..even the trunk lid can be fiberglass.. Thsi would be close to what one of those trans am road course Camaros were in those days... Oh another thing the rear locating arms were on top of the rear housing..pivoted on both ends and we had birdcages on the rear.. This is about what we did build in those days..of course it was always interesting to see if we could get all of this past tech.. All of the parts for this are available including the suspension components.. Pardon me if I digress a bit but I did own a Mustang with all the trans am Shelby parts in it back in those days..sure miss that car.. Sometimes get after myself for letting that car go..Thanks for the memories..

if i were thinkin like that, i would say you should do a search of both hrm and phr mags, and look for that first gen that races and kills ferrari's and vettes at laguna sega. it also races the silver state challange. and i would do as close to that as i could.
found it for ya! go here, *****: http://popularhotrodding.com/features/0406phr_owen/ tiiiiiiiiiggggghttt!!! |
