Sorry I missed your question earlier Chris. The short answer is I was able to retire at age 47 (in 1992) after some fairly successful investments (financial markets and real estate) and a lot of hard work and long nights/weekends "flipping" (buying - rehabbing - selling) apartment buildings beginning back in the 70's WAY before the term "flipping" had even been invented. I also worked full time as a reporter/writer and later as the head of a real estate development company (not my own).

I'm pretty much out of the real estate now (I don't think we will ever see boom times again in that sector) but I still dabble in the financial markets, primarily day trading futures.

I also agree with you that without a good deal of available time, it is a real challenge to build a decent rod. So I really have to hand it to the guys on here who do it in addition to working full time as you do.
Thanks Cboy, I am glad to see that somebody has made a little something in investments. I'm the guy that finally got together enough money to do something and then invested it in transportation funds, futures and stocks on July,,,,,,,, 2001! Bought a house in 2004 because everyone said now's the time prices are going to get higher. Now I'm upside down in it. I think I'm just going to tell everybody to F off and devote all of my time to a scratch built. I'm gonna rent me garage that's big enough to live in and build my dream! I have built so much stuff for other people in my life and I mean some nice projects that have one plenty of trophies but I have built very little for myself.

NI good to see some new cars coming out from Iron man joe! Looks like he has them dialed in. How long does it take him to build most of those? I have always wanted a bike so that has been my next project, i have enough cars. Just like my other build, its from scratch . Hope all is well

Sorry took so long i was gone for the holidays. Sounds like joe can really pump them out cant he, is he just collecting them or is he selling them? If he gets sick or building them down there he can come up here and make one with me.

Like i have said before i kinda cut funding to my car do to other projects but i needed to try something out that had been working up in my head. We had alot of old stuff at the shop and came across an old turbo and figured what better way to learn about them, so i used the rat rod. Only took about 4 hours to fab up the flanges and run hoses and stuff but i was super happy i made it work and well its ALOT of fun now We have a bit of snow up here right now so its in storage or i would get a good picture of the intake and stuff i made and have on it now. These pictures are from when i was just testing it and just sealed off the old intake and ran the hose in the side. ill see if i can dig up any pictures of the new one. Its always fun learning about new things, never say you cant.

nothing fancy, its about learning for me.

C boy, the ride looks like a cross between a hot wheels and one of the rat rods I saw many years ago. I swear I lost 30 years when I looked at that....unfortunately the mirrorsaid otherwise.
My neighbor just got a bender unit and i guess I will work on e English wheel and whatever other stuff I can make of it...

He gave me some books to look at while I recuperate from the broken leg bones....
Thanks for the posts and I am now on page 2 of I guess 129, maybe more... That will keep me busy for awhile!
