Sealer Tint Recommendations

Hello everyone, I've posted a few times here but this is the first thread I've started.

I tried to search as best as I could before asking so please excuse any oversights.

I am paining a Mustang convertible back to red, however, it won't be the factory red. I plan on using HOK Meteor Maroon (a metallic color), which is a very close match to factory but a bit more custom.

I'm looking for suggestions on tinting the sealer for better coverage and to help hide the eventual chips.

Here is a sample of the Ko-Seal II tintable sealers on the TCP Global site using KS12 - silver sealer tinted with KK11 apple red, I will be going with something a bit darker for the tint like Burgundy.

Since I'm painting with a metallic color, I'm wondering what your opinions of the effects of having a "silver" tinted sealer would be (like this example shows)?

If it were you, would you stick with the white sealer and tint of my choice?

I will be using HOK Kandy Koncentrate paint for the tinting, as they recommend, however, I'm not sure if these paints are high concentrated specifically for tinting or if it's just a paint that can be used to tint.

Thanks in advance, any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

sealer colors

white sealers will make the brighter colors pop even more, darker sealers will tone them down a bit. I would go to your nearest paint supply house pick up some white and then grey sealer. to a test peace with the color you choose as a topcoat and go from there.

Actually, under RED, you want to use a YELLOW base. If you are using a true candy color, go with the silver base.

Some people tend to say Kandy thinking it's going to be a true Candy color. Which it's not.

True Candy colors use a base of gold or silver and the candy clear is applied over it. This is what gives the paint a candied apply appearance.

I would use a medium gray that is what Dupont used on the E9 color on the mid 90s mustang
