Searching for a rear end.

Help, I can't find my rear end. I've walked miles and miles in the salvage yard looking, so now I need your help.
My '48 Chevy is 47 3/8" outside to outside frame rails. I have information that tells me that a 54" - 55" rear end will fit. A "68 - 72 Chevelle or a '67 full size Chevy should fit.

Next questions are, What if any lug bolt patterns are the same as Chevy? and when was the last leaf spring end used? All I seem to find is coil springs in the rear, so I need to know what process I need to follow to convert to coils?

Thanks

why convert to coils when all u have to do is cut off all the coil bracketry and run ubolts with the leafs. I'v heard that Camero rear ends are bolt in. any rear end with a 5X4.75" bolt pattern will be the same as yours.

Click here for a fairly good list of rear ends ...

http://www.quickperformance.com/Tech...us_measure.htm

They measure rear ends this way ... it takes in the total width ... backing plates and brake drums vary ... so measure overall width ... to be safe ..

I suggest a 68 to 74 Nova ... or a 2 wheel drive S-10 ...

74 - 78 Nova or Skylarks work well. I picked one up at the local scrap yard for $75. It was a dogleg but the price and availability were right at the time. There should be plenty of them just about anywhere.
