seats

I am trying to help my older brother here. He has been working on a 55 hardtop for some time now and is now ready to do his seats. He wants to use buckets in the front and needs to get some idea of what to use. After some suggestions I will let him make a choice.

55 seats

I finished a 55 a year or so ago. I used a Glide seat with the bucket-looking backs and fold down armrest. I went with it because I could get them covered with matching covers for the back seat and side panels. Mounted easily, very very uncomfortable to drive any distance at all, made my back hurt. I used Scat bucket seats sold by Summitt in a 57truck, they were very comfortable, decent price, and when I called the company they had all sorts of high quality mounts to make the install easy. Bill

I guess that I forgot to say that my brother had bought three sets of used seats and none of them are the proper fit, to tall, to low, or to wide. I thought that some feedback from other 55 hdt owners could shed some light on used stuff. He might be better off to go with the new that are mentioned.

In my 55, I used 64 Impala bucket seats....quite comfortable and fit the car nicely. Adapting seats from one car to another .............the hard part is getting or making the floor brackets, that fit properly.

What I would do is measure to see how wide you can go etc. and the height range that you want etc. Then hit the junk yards with your tape measure in hand. When you find some the right size then its a mater of modifying the floor mounts to fit your car.

I think that we can do the tape measure on my hdt to get the right idea of what we need for the initial size of used bucket to start with.

Thanks tc

This is actually a 55 hardtop project of my older brother, who has been working on this car for long, long time. Now he's down to finding interior parts for this hardtop, and I'll tell him about your 1968 Chevy front seats. Are these split bench seats? Thanks.

Terry
