ftpro2,

I'm up against the same problem with a 1951 Chevy suburban. A while back I ordered (after hours of searching for a source) a headliner kit. It was the cardboard type stuff and didn't even come close to fitting the truck. I have about 22 months in this thing, including paint and interior and the headliner is one of the last things, along with new glass, that still has to be done. It's been in about six shows and taken a few awards as it is. I found a guy that is good with flat glass and he is going to replace all the side windows soon at a very reasonable price. Now, if I can solve this headliner thing I'll be much closer to finished.........but I guess there isn't really any "finished". There's alway one more little thing.

By custom headliner, do you mean one hung from bows or a "hard" headliner? A hard headliner would probably best be done in two sections, one section in the cab area and one section in the cargo area. Your truck needs a framework to screw a luan plywood base to, and then the final headliner can be attached with contact adhesive and hidden mechanical fasteners. If that $800 quote includes the fabric and all supplies, it's a very good price.

I use a thin plywood headliner base for the cars nad trucks I do. This is attached to the rood of the vehicle and covered with a headliner material (foam). then the headliner material is attached to that running on a short angle down to the side panels.
