sem rust-mort

I'm using this stuff for the first time, mostly on floors and light surface rust, and was wondering if there is any precautions you guys would suggest prior to paint.

Yes use this stuff as a rust REMOVER and not as a "converter". If you use it to remove the rust, and it works quite well for that, and then remove the residue you should have no problems. No matter what any product claims DO NOT PAINT OVER RUST!

how would you "remove" the rust that is in the pits, such as an old frame when using this stuff.

I use a spot blast to get the pits out..first I hit the easy areas with my sanders before I start blasting..saves on blast media that way..On the Rust Mort SEM will tell you in the tech manual to get ALL THE RESIDUE off prior to painting..Even using SEM paint such as rust shield which is a decent product for interiors and such..We use it on tractors and equipment..

Sand blast any rust pits, you don't need rust returning in a year or two. I like Dupont metal prep and thier two part bare metal Vari prime paint. The last two cars I have used DTM primer. Epoxy is tough but harder to sand. Also the compressed air for the paint gun needs to be dry and clean.
