sending unit/ gas gauge incompatibility

I'm putting a 65 Mustang gas tank under my 57 Chevy truck. I haven't purchased a sending unit yet but I'm assuming my only option is the original Mustang one. I know the Ford sending unit isn't compatable with the 57 Chevy gas gauge so what are my options??

1. Adapt a factory or aftermarket, pre 65 chevy sending unit into the tank and use the stock gage.
2. Use an aftermarket Ford gage and use the mustang sending unit that's in the tank already.

Is there an aftermarket sending unit that fits the Mustang gas tank without modification? or will it take some cutting/welding?
Is there any way to take some of the guts out of the original sender and put it into a Mustang sender???
