Scanner or code reader? You need professional help!! Snap-On Solous or better. Could be a transmission code

When does it come on? This era of GM trucks were known for EVAP system codes due to a plugged EVAP pump filter. Ususally, the light will come on somewhere around 1/2 tank of fuel.

if the cel is on you do have codes. You may need a better scanner to read them. Could be transmission or body control codes.
