Could be any number of things. You should have some one plug in and check for any failure codes.

88Chevy,

I am guessing that this light is in a 1988 Chevy truck? Or is it a newer vehicle? Doe it run alright or does it idle really fast? Does it have a mis-fire? Does the light stay on once it comes on? How many miles are on this vehicle?

Go to autozone, and ask for a GM code key. They should give you on free. If not, you can use a paperclip. Put the key, or two points of the paper clip into the two most upper right spots on the diagnostic plugin (should be spots A and B). The engine light will begin to blink. It will blink once, then twice and repeat that three times. It will then blink out the two digit code three times, followed by possibly another code. Once all the codes are done, it will blink once, then twice (which is code 12) to let you know its done reading off the codes.

The engine light is coming on for a reason. The comupter will tell you that reason, you just need to check it.

Doc here,

Are you saying that you are running a 92 engine off an 88 computer..Or did I not understand correctly?

I agree with a probable O2 sensor. The engine runs on a closed loop until it warms, then switches to open loop...a couple minutes.

Some of the codes you got dont seem right.

23 - ?? not sure what this is ??

24 - transmission input shaft greater than 3000 output less than 200

44 - lean O2 sensor reading

Check for exhaust leaks at manifolds and down pipes.
Replace O2 sensor.
Fuel pressure.

Do you have the right throttle body for your engine and computer?
