Can I run this tranny without a tv cable? I'm just wanting to get out of all the hocus-pocus of the dang tv cable setup, but would ofcourse like to use the 4 speed auto? Anyone have a good story?

i got a good one for ya...
a buddy has been buildin this car.... 49 ford, chopped, sectioned, bagged etc....
LS1 and a 700r4... he couldnt get it to shift right for some reason... he went out and got a non computerized 700r..... runs great now.

personally, a 700r4 does not belong in a hotrod.... but thats just me

Nope. The TV cable regulates the transmission's internal hydraulic pressure. It'll self destruct without the cable functioning properly.

I have a 700r4 in my t bucket. I love it. With a 3.73 gear it will leave like it has a 5.13 and cruise like it has a 3.08. I did not set it up, but it works great. A local trans shop did it all for me. Oh and it has a 2500 converter that will lock in OD.

The T.V.Cable is a very simple adjustment once you've done it once, no hocus-pocus at all.
The hardest part is getting the correct bracket and these are available in every junkyard or speed shop. Pick up a bracket to work with your carb.
Also get a kit to replace the computer controlled lock-up function with vacuum controlled. Takes the computer entirely out of the picture and functions as normal. TCI, Trans-Dapt, Summit, Jegs, etc.
An O.D. tranny is the best thing you can do to update an old hotrod. Like RPM's said, best of both worlds. Low speed blasts and high speed cruising. I wouldn't even consider building a hotrod or street machine without an O.D.
