setting valve spring on installed height question

hi everyone, i have a few questions about springs.

first i have a set of dart pro-1 215cc heads & the valves are +.100". the valve springs i have that came with this cam, set up on 1.96" installed height. is my valve going to be long enough to set them at the recommended height? also they are 1.55" dia., will i have clearance issues with my comp cams magnum full roller rockers? (their like the stainless steel rockers only their steel)

i can get a set of diamond springs that sets up at 1.85" with the same seat pressure & within 5-10 pounds at open pressure. should i go this route, or will the 1.55" dia spring still be a problem?

or lastly, i can get the comp cams 977-16 springs that have a 1.85" installed height, only with 1.46" dia. spring?

thanks for any help.

Ho one can answer your questions without knowing what your present installed height is..

Measure the distance from spring seat to the spring ledge on the proposed retainers(installed on the valve). Then you can go about getting the correct spring/retainer/cup/ and rocker clearance.

Retainers are available with the required offset and spring seats/shims will take of the spring base. As for the rockers.. Mock up the head and measure. Thats the only sure way..

Valve height

It would be nice to know the diameter of your present springs also. If you have 1.25 springs you may have to cut the pocket wider to use a larger diameter spring.

Valve height

If the valves in it now are actually set at 1.80 height and shims were used to get that height, odds are you can use the Comp Cams springs. You really do have to measure the valve height with the pocket and retainer installed to know for sure though. Your local speed shop, Summit, Jegs and others can sell you the proper tool to measure the valve height with.
