Winters Q/C locker install

Hi Guys,, I hope some body out there can give me a bit of infromation on setting up a detroit locker in a winters Q/C carrier,, I have never set one up before,, The locker has bearings on each side that fit into races that are installed in the side bells, and are held in by bolting the side bells onto the center section,, there is a rub block adjustment [ so to speak] that can be adjusted to hold the locker centered. against the bells { I think this is how its suspose to work,, anyone know about these things.. any special clearances or anything? I have checked the winters website but there is no infro there,, Thanks Bill

How to adjust "ring gear wear pad" straight from Winters:

Run wear pad in against the ring gear with a force of 5 in lbs, back off approximately 1/4 turn to obtain .008 to .010 clearance between ring gear and wear pad. Tighten jam nut on adjusting screw being careful not to turn adjusting screw any further.

If I'm reading your initial post right, you also will need to adjust the carrier bearing preload and gear backlash.

See the attached for FAQ and setup instructions form Winters.

The instructions actually *are* on the Winter web site, buried in the catalog.

I answered a similar question for you in 2007. See the attachments in the link below:

Have you been working on the same rear since 2007? Don't feel bad- I've been doing body work on the same car since 1993!
