Unless you are going to make the seat covers without sew foam, you need an industrial sewing machine. You have to explain what you're trying to do in more detail to get a good answer to your question. Are you trying to duplicate the seat covers only in a different fabric?

The seats in your car will be sewed to sew foam, and to sew that together, you will need more than just a home sewing machine. It's not that a home sewing machine wouldn't be able to sew it, you wouldn't be able to get the thicknesses of foam and fabric under the foot to be able to do the sewing. You will need to get access to an industrial machine to sew your seat covers.

If you are not intending to do this for more than just your car, it doesn't make any sense to buy an industrial sewing machine, especially if you've never sewed before. Like anything else, sewing requires skill and experience. It's not something that you will be able to do right away and be able to do it well. Besides the machine itself, there are a lot of other things you will need to be able to disassemble, cut, sew, and reassemble your car seats. Why not take it to a pro who has all the equipment, materials and sources for fabric, sew foam etc. I guarantee you will spend less than buying all the things you need yourself.

You need an industrial compound feed walking foot sewing machine. Something like a Singer 111W or one of its many clones, CLICK HERE You already said you didn't want to invest $1000 in a sewing machine, but that's pretty much what you'll have to do unless you stumble across a good used machine.
