Red face Shaft rocker trouble uhhh not good

I installed a CMD shaft rocker assembly to replace the stock weak valve train on my 72 cady 472. The caddy rocker shaft is like the ford fe engines for anyone who is unfamilliar. anyway, after about 160 miles of Break in-driving I discovered that my fancy pants rocker shaft had broken. (The shaft itself.) I called the company I bought it from and after a little wating They agreed to replace the broken shaft.

I was taking off the driver side shaft today to send them back as a pair, and Discovered that the driver side shaft was broken also just beyond the last mounting block. so both shafts had broken in the same place causing the last last valves on the back of the heads to be inoperative (#7 intake and #8 exaust.) both pushrods are slightly bent.

I was thinking that a piston could have hit a valve. but here is where things get strange.

I reinstalled the stock rockers and t-stands and all that happy stuff. but the 2 formentioned pushrods have too much slop in them when the lifter is on the base circle i can move the pushrods up and down around 40 thou. of an inch.

The heads are stock units from 72 with only heavier springs installed the springs i have are susposed to be good to .650. lift basic rebuild on the bottom end nothing special the cam is a comp 270h the specs are .516 lift and 224 deg druation at .50

Any ideas? any more info I could give you guys? the new shafts are should be here in a week or two and I'd rather not go through this again

You didnt put the old bent pushrods back in did you?

If you have straight pushrods in there and still have freeplay in pushrod sight down the valve tips to be sure theyre all at same height or possibly couple cam lobes are going bad.
