Try the Vintage Mustang site above and see if anyone there can assist you. Give them all of the symptoms, the previous repairs made to the car and list everything that has been suggested and tryed.
Do a search under "Mustang forums" and you'll find plenty of similar sites that are specific to your vehicle...chances are someone has had the same symptoms and will be able to direct you. I know you say that money is tight, but the aggravation in trying to locate the problem(s) will drive you nuts. It'll be a good investment if you want to determine the problem(s) accurately.

Cylinders not firing

2 4 6 7

according to the book 1 2 3 4 from front to back looking at engine
5 6 7 8 on the right counting from front to back

i hear its a carb idle circuit being blocked up

i took the airhorn off... took the float off and sprayed the hell out of the inside of the brass fitting with gumout!! it still runs pretty shaky but its much better

what do i do from here? how can i completely get rid of this

i suppose i can ride the car for now like this... but next weekend i think i'm doing a carb rebuild to get this junk out

any more suggestions on cleaning the idle circuits out would greatly be appreciated

Well if 4 plugs aren't gettin any spark at all then you need to look into your distributor... May have a cracked cap or maybe its not setting and latched down right....

i keep hearing its the carberator... thats all anyone will tell me

they tell me the passenger side barrel runs the exact cylinders that aren't firing..

how do you clean the carb completely out.. i've taken the airhorn off and the float and sprayed into these little jets

it hasn't helped at all
just made things worse... at first better a lot better
but now worse and sometimes better and sometimes the same

-who will save us from the sane??

From the sounds of it you got junk in your carburator.. And why you tried cleaning it it just moved it out of the passage ways for a short while.. Your best bet will probably to be to take the carbuerator off and do a complete tear down and either clean ever part and possibly buy a carburator rebuild kit and rebuild it while your at it.

okay, try this. my uncle does this when he had carb. problems. he took it apart and dropped it into a bucket full of this green degreaser stuff, i dnt remember the name. but he left it in there for a day or two and oulled it out. whiped it down and put it together and slapped it on there and it ran like new.

Are you not reading what's being said?

If you pull a wire and nothing changes, that wire or plug is bad.

If you pull a wire and the engine runs worse, that wire or plug is good. You made it bad by pulling the wire off.

Why don't you just get a new carb instead of messing with it yourself?

Unless you are a qualified carb rebuilder trying to fix the carb yourself is not a viable option. If you were a qualified carb rebuilder I suspect that the problem would have been fixed by now.
