I have heard of people having the heads shaved & my Question is would it do any good by shaving the Heads. Would this give you more compression could someone help me clear this up. Thanks

Hello Shaving the heads will increase compression. But if shaved to much you'll have to have the intake machined w/ the heads cause the mating angle will change. Also w/the heads shaved it will bring the valves closer to the piston which could cause clearance probs. If you want to make compression without a piston change I would find a set of heads w/ a smaller chamber size. If you have a 350 chevy for example putting 305 heads will bump it from stock 8.5:1 to about 9.5:1. Cause the chamber is 58cc and 350 heads are anywhere from 64-76cc. Hope this helps

Shaving the heads will add compression but can cause clearance problems. On a stock motor, changing the compression one point on 320hp motor will only add 20 or so horsepower but could cause you to need higher octane fuel. It probably won't cause piston/valve clearance unless you take alot off but can cause problems if you have quench style heads. You can change your compression ratio with the same heads by using thinner head gaskets than what you have on it.

78 monty 305 heads use a differnt bolt pattern for the exaust manifolds. just found that out when I took the 305 out of my 85 short bed

406 you are right.But its just an extra bolt hole in front of the normal hole,headers should bolt right up.(At least my 82/305s were like that anyway)Maybe they changed um?
