Shelf life

Is there a shelf life for automotive paints and primers?
I'm not talking any specific brands or types, just in general.

If they are kept in a controlled environment where the temp is near 70 degrees I would say about two years in a sealed container.

I wouldnt use it on anything I really cared about but I pulled some 10 yr old paint (base) off the shelf and didnt have any trouble,it was a little thick so I added extra reducer..As long as its sealed up tight and theres no crust on top it should be ok. This was for the kid next doors bike (freebee) ...

Thanks for the responses. I have a few gallions of primer ,one self etching and one urathane that I want to use on my car hauler. It's two years old, just didn't want to screw up my paint gun.

Only way to know for sure is to mix up a small batch and test it.

I'd find a paint shaker and give em a good shaking...it'll all be settled at the bottom and very hard to mix with a stick, maybe a paint mixer that chucks up to a drill...if the hardener has ever been opened it'll be all dryed up by now and need to be replaced but both parts of the etch primer should be good to go.
