I'm considering using it for an overall paint job on my 68 LeMans (GTO Clone) Convertible.

What is good and bad about it?

It's cheap....I wouldn't use it on a show car but if you're just doing a cruiser it would be fine. It doesn't cover as well as higher end paints ie PPG's Deltron.
I used PPG's Omni (their lower grade) and I liked it compared to SW.
I just prefer PPG paint.

I have used it before and I can say it does not cover well and I painted the car all over then the car came back with a dent so I did the repair and they could never match the color the tint base are not consistent if you are looking for a cheap paint then I would go with (Dupont)Nason or (PPG)Shop line

Thanks for the reply.

I realize that DBC is a better paint, and if it was 2x as expensive I would not think twice about using it. Unfortunately, in the color (red) I am thinking about using, it costs over 5 times as much. I don't recall the exact prices, but I think the SW cost about $130 per gallon and the PPG about $650 per gallon. If I recall correctly the the Omni cost about 2x as much as the SW.

I understand that the SW Dimensions does not cover as well, as top line paints and may not match as well (should not be an issue with an overall) but is the DBC worth over 5 X as much.

One of my "problems" is that I live in a rural area with no big cities nearby. Not a lot of options to buy locally, several places that sell Dupont or PPG and one that sells Sherwin Williams. The SW store only carries the dimensions line.

Are there online places to order some of these other brands?

If so, who/where?

I plan to use SPI Universal Clear and have already purchased it.

Thanks, Joel

Ive used it, It's similar to PPG's Omni
It's priced cheep and covers poorly compared to higher end paints
All the companys have an economy paint. You can get a respectible paint job with them all, but you usually need more product to get good coverage.
I'm an experienced painter. I'm doing fargo in pieces with Omin plum crazy a having a H*#L of a time . Wish I'd never let the owner talk me into using the stuff. Can't get the pieces to match each other.
I will likely end up doing a complete after assembly.
Are you an experienced painter?
If so you'll be abill to do it. If you're a beginner you'll end up with runs, tiger stripes, wet and dry spots, ETC.
A paint that covers easier and stays were you put it (such as a base clear) would save you $$$ in the end

I have some, but not a lot of experience. I have done some panel painting and I have painted about 8-10 vehicles, most of them, quite a while ago, using laquer. I used PPG DBC and PPG clear on the last paint job I did.

I have a new Devilbis Plus Gun to use for this project.

I will be using Base/Clear, regardless of the brand I choose.

automotive art is a premium paint line relabled sort of like sikkens

gentec is from lucid tech they are out of utah.

I have used both and they are great. The automotive art being the best. Coverage is usually 2-3 coats. Color match is second to none

the gentec is a good base also just one step below the automotive art

You shouldn't have any problem then
Base clears are very easy to use.
The base colour sprays similar to laquer the shine comes from the clear coat put over the base colour.
Good choice
Good luck & have fun
