Shifter question

i have an automatic 81 chevy pickup with a messed up steering column so i bought a used steering column out of a 4 speed. What could i do about the shifter? Should i put a floor shifter in it or somehow put the shifter off the old steering column on the new one?

Should have just bought the right column!!

Taking the two apart to swap pieces is a major PITA, worse than just fixing whatever was wrong with the original column. To use the stick shift column you will have to put some sort of floor shifter in.

You could probably come out ahead on this, the floor shift columns are a lot harder to find and worth more. If you're not in a hurry, find someone looking to go with a floor shift and swap them for their column shift setup + $$$.
