shimming spider gears make differential act like posi?

I've read from a few sources that if you shim the spider gears up tight enough you can make an open differential act like it has limited slip. Has anyone one tried this or heard of it being done? How well did it work and how long did it last?

You cannot get the shims in to make it tight enough to act like a limited slip. If it did work, it would burn up the first time you spin up one tire on water or ice.

Shimming the spider gears in this way will only result in wearing them out.
If it does work, it WON'T for long.
