Shock installation on 1968 C10

WEll I think I screwed this one up! I installed Doetsch 4052G shocks on the front of my '68 C10. The old shocks had no inserts in the rubber so I assumed that I didn't need any for the new shocks. Well I have about ruined the polyurethane mounts.

It's obvious that this isn't the way to install shocks. How are the shocks properly mounted?

Shock installation on 1968 C10

OK I think I got this resolved. I checked with a guy that has an original '68 and upon checking his truck found that the brackets on mine had been modified! I corrected the brackets and the crush sleeves that came with the shocks fit perfectly. The shocks with the crush sleeves installed fit and operate fine.

Why I would think that some previous owner knew what he was doing is beyond me. I won't make that mistake again - especially with the help available here.

Thanks
