Which shocks for V8 beetle project???

Hello everyone, I'm starting to re-assemble the front end of our V8 beetle project, and the only thing I don't have for the front end is new shocks, and I'm a little lost at what I should get.

I've herd go with bilstein, are they really that great or are you just paying for the name???

Also I've seen the edelbrock performer shocks and reading the description they sound great, good handling and good ride etc......... But are you just paying extra because they ave an edelbrock sticker on them???

I don't particularity care about what brand they are as long as they'll last.

I'm not looking to be cheap here, if I have to spend a little extra money for a better shock thats fine, I just don't want to waste money because it has a edelbrock sticker on it... LOL I can use the money I save to buy the next part

Also would adjustable shocks be a good idea, that way we could dial them in a bit??? or is that not necessary??

I'll give you a little info on our project and what we'll use the car for because I'm sure that will effect the decision.

-First of all I'm using a modified s10 chassis. The wheel base has been shortened to 97.5" which is 3" longer than the stock beetle wheel base

-The s10 track width is staying the same, the beetle got sliced in half and I will widen it 8" to match

-the s10 had a 2.8l v6 in it, but I upgraded to new 4.3l moog springs, I figured the slightly stiffer springs would be better with a 350 mounted up front.

-in the back I'm using new trailer leaf springs, they are rated at 2500lbs for the set, with 3 leafs. I figured I'd start off removing 1 leaf and if its too stiff remove the other, to soft add the 3rd leaf back in.

-I'm upgrading to zq8 (chevy extreme) sway bars and urethane sway bar bushings and end links

-I've been told the car will probably weigh between 2500-2800lbs when finished?

-finally I'll be using this car as a toy, no racing. Doing some cruising etc..... I'd like it to handle as best as possible, but also be a decent ride.

Let me know if you need any more info

Oh yeah also if they shocks weren't bright yellow or red that would be great...... LOL Its not a big deal to paint them black or silver, but if they were already black or silver that would be great

Thanks for all the help guys!!!
