Shop Press

I've been considering buying a shop press for various tasks, to include pressing out wrist pins.

What would you recommend as a good all around press? 12 ton?

12 ton is fine. I rarely go over 4-5 ton pressure (on my indicator) even on tuff projects.

Both of the shops I work in, use a 20 ton press. I don't have any experience with the 12 ton, but the 20 seems to do the job OK. You can pick the 12 ton up at HF for about 110 and the 20 ton for about 200.

4 years on one, and 2 years on the other. still working....Used a couple times a week...suspension parts, engine parts etc...
You could try to find one, "Made in America"...How often will it be used? If not often, the HF will probably be OK...If you need it everyday, I'd find something better..

I went with the HF 20 ton on sale. The only thing that can really wear out is the jack and that's a one minute replacement. I've not used mine a lot but I pressed pretty hard several times with no problems.
