Is it possible to use a long water pump instead of the short water pump on my 1977 Corvette? I am planning on converting to an electric cooling fan system. Is there more to the short and long pumps other than just their length from the block?

You would have to also change pulleys and brackets for the alternator and A/C compressor.

You can do it but I see NO ADVANTAGE to it ...

Why do you want to go from a short to a long ... most folks want to go the other way to gain room at the front of the engine.

I agree with deuce, If you look at the water pump pulley spacing, there is actually a 3rd measurement or different water pump, just for the vette. Just replace the stocker with a good aftermarket new pump, or your favorite parts house pump with a lifetime guarantee! The hassle of changing all the brackets to get the proper pulley alignment could be maddening in the vette!!

The only advantage I see, is that you get to use a shorter belt on the alternator.........also, easier access to fill PS pump.

The alternator has to go to the other side, different brackets and all different pulleys.
