Short shaft on long shaft tranny

Think I know the answer but before I'm deeper in the money pool I figure I'll be sure. Got a th350 from wrecker today, short shaft, front of housing is not so good. Got a deal on one thats all good but long shaft. Any reason when I come to rebuild I cant make one outta two. That is to say rebuild the long shaft unit yet use the shaft and tail section from short guy? I THINK it makes sense but want to hear from some in the know cause I gotta pay for the long boy, better to know now than after

Yes, you can make a tail housing and tailshaft switch at the time you rebuild it. Tailshaft is basically the first piece into the case when rebuilding, so you will have to completely gut both cases to get what you want.

Don't forget the speedo gear is on the shaft, make sure to keep the one you want.
