Short Waterpump on a GEN 6 BBC

Will a short water pump clear the OEM cast aluminum timing cover on a Gen VI 454?

If it's a oem cover then the short pump should fit with no problems.JMO.....Cole

And oh, how the heck did the short water pump become so popular if it was only used for two - three years by GM in production vehicles?

Possibly because it gives a bit more fore aft clearence in tight engine compartments(Mustang, Malibu, etc)
