Should I build this Chev engine?

A friend has a throttle body 5.7 Chev engine that he would sell for $100. It's about a 1994 or so. He got it from a wrecking yard, installed it and found it had no oil pressure to the top end. Had pressure at the gage though. Has Vortec heads, some brackets, the throttle body manifolds. I have a tired 1980 350 in my Scout and was thinking this would make a nice replacement. Help me make up my mind.

My best guess is a clogged oil gallery to the top end in that engine...

Probably the parts alone are worth 100 soo if a fellow was to have the block and heads tanked and cleaned you may have a good start..

just my thoughts..

If you haven`t checked the heads casting numbers, and there factory 1994 heads there not vortecs, the name Vortec was used since the 80`s as just a name, vortec heads came along in 1996.
There could be several reasons why it had no oil pressure to the top end, if the engine was just primed, sometimes it takes a while before it makes it to the top end.

Thanks for the Vortec info. Since they are not Vortec, they would fit my 85ish 350that I'm running right now. So if the engine is trash I should still end up with a nice set if heads.
