Here are some sweet 062 Vortecs I am about ready to top off this small block. After taking a close look at the chambers it seems there are some areas that could use some attention.
The main offenders seem to be the point of the heart shaped chamber. If I smooth these out will it pick up any CFM?
It also seems that the area around where the valve seat was cut could use some attention. Should I worry about these areas?
Smoothing the slight ridge out will change nothing as it's a open area and not shrouded. When the mixture is flowing out of the runner and past the valve it stays close to the valve, so close that in open areas it never touches the chamber.
If you were running abnormally high compression sharp edges can cause preignition. early Ford FE had the spark plugs cut at and angle into a milled surface and sharp edges, would ping with anything less than 100 octane
DoubleVision:
I see the area is around the edges of the valve, and if a 5 angle valve job promotes more CFM than a 3 angle valve job, then this boundary layer my be important. I do tend to over think things.

Yes I forgot to mention one of my concerns was sharp edges retaining heat and causing pre-ignition. The engine will be about 9.9:1 running on pump gas with flat tops and iron heads.
I had 11.5 to 1, after following the Ford districts engine tech's instructions it fixed the pre ignition problems
