Should I give the 7004r another go

whats up guys heres the situation after talking bad about my first 7004r trans ( went dead cause of heating issues, tv cable, also had a small leak only god knows what was the problem with that thing lasted about 2 months). But anyway i was determined I was going to go with a long tail th350 because it has more after market parts and I dont have to be so worried about the tv cable. But a friend of the family has a couple of transmission and one of them happens to be a 700r4 I told him he** no i dont want to deal with one of those again. But he told me the one I had was old and he says the one he has is stronger and claims its stronger than a th350 which he also has and said was good. He told me the 7004r was in a old chevrolet truck. I thought about the benefits of the 700r4 and how I already have the crossmember and tv cable and etc that I should consider giveing it a try. I beleive him because he is a old guy and been doing cars since coon days and everyone goes to him for adivse. Should I give it another try (and since this time Ive got a trans cooler)or go for th350

I found some numbers on the 7004r on the front behind where the converter goes I saw the numbers 8654732 and on the side i found the numbers 8663549. If anyone knows anthing about those numbers to know what year it came out of or if its one the strongers ones I would greatly appreciate it. Dont have money right now for a rebuild but defintly getting one in the near future dont know what trans to go after right now

A 700R4 from a vehicle equipped with a V8 would be able to handle slightly more power than one from a vehicle equipped with a V6, it would have a higher clutch count. Newer the Trans the better it is, they have more of the design flaws worked out.
If you don't set the TV cable properly you will be wasting your time.
If you haven't read this before, you should. There are 3-parts, parts I, II & III page links at upper leftof page. TV 101 Article >>> http://www.tvmadeez.com/article/index.php
