Should Pads Be Replaced After Trueing Rotors?

After only 9K easy miles, the disc brakes on my front clip (1988 Olds) have developed considerable shimmy. The rotors and brake pads were new or at least true when the clip was done.

Should I replace the pads after having the rotors trued?

If the pads have lots of meat left on them, use them

I'd replace both the rotors & pads, your rotors are warped & making them thinner won't help for long.

Ps I think I'd also check out the whole system as in, (are you getting any help from the rear breaks)

I know that the dealership routinely uses the old pads when they have a service call for brake pulsing, and cut the rotors, but I would also look elsewhere for the source of the warped rotors! Make sure the shop that resurfaces the rotors assures the minimum thickness is within spec and the rotors are not already too thin, or they will warp again, and make sure the rear brakes are functioning properly. I would not reuse old pads, as the "bedding in " may take a longer time, and the pads are relatively cheap, and that would rule out them as the cause should the brake pulsing return again. The calipers are also to be suspect -if they are not returning after braking the drag on the rotor can cause warping from overheating!

My memory from 4 years ago isn't clear, but I think the shop that grafted the front clip onto the 1939 chasis had the front clip rotors turned and put new pads on.

So, not knowing the history of the rotors, I should probably replace them. Anyone have advice on where to buy new rotors and pads for a street driven car. Car is driven maybe 3K miles per year. So, I would want good brakes that don't squeal; long wear probably isn't so important.

I checked basic rotor at Advance Auto, $65: and NAPA, $48.
