This should serve as a wake up call....

I saw this on another board, and I hope that it will serve as motivation for those who go out to street race to think twice. This stuff is senseless....

Another lesson learned the hard way. Unfortunately, they'll be back out and some will think of him as a martyr.

In '79 a friend of mine ripped a 69 mach1 mustang in half much the same way. It was in a back woods road in Northern Mass, The cops who were chasing him let up at 90 because they were unable to keep up and as they predicted, he couldn't either. He got airborn on a high outside corner
and went off road and hit a phone pole 8 feet off the ground.

The pole hit right behind the drivers door, ripping the car in half, sending the back half over 100 feet from the front.

I know the condition of the car, I got to strip what was left. (the clutch and brake pedals are now in my mustang)

Both people in the car survived, and Ron, the driver of that car is still racing today.

He does keep it on the track though.

Later, mikey

my opinion

It is unfortunate that someone died, but at least only he died. All too often they take out innocent bystanders or other unsuspecting drivers crossing their path. Jerry

I believe they are full frame, I had the frame to one sitting in my garage for 18 months before I sent it to the scrap pile. The same frame (with minor changes to the crossmember) was used on all GM G-Body platform cars from '78 to '88. That scrap frame was from an '81 Regal. Tremendous force to split a car like that, no doubt.

Hmm...I always thought it was a unibody car (was told that often). Shows how much attention I paid to it. It was my X-wifes car.

OF corrse...

I am going to bet that

#1 the car had too much torque for the stock frame & lead to fatigue cracks
&

#2 if there was any modifications done IE: welding in a ford 9" or a 4 link it might have been done wrong but I could be wrong .

#3 could have been stress cracks @ the trans cross member causeing it to fail the frame

#4 loose nut behind the wheel

RIP Lead footed dude

I saw a girl driving a Cadillac SUV the other day, she was talking on the cell, reading the newspaper, smoking and drinking a coffee.
How many people here drive while talking on the cell?

I'm 50, I street race, and take my 64 Bonneville up to 145+mph where its safe.
If you want to try to make things safer on the road, attack all the mechanical retards driving trucks who have no business owning a bicycle let alone a truck!
I see things getting worse as people become educated, and in turn, more common sense retarded. I've never seen more goddamn idiots in my life as I do today on the road.

they need to keep it on a track. there is too much traffic on most of todays roads for this kind of behavior. but you will never stop street racing even if all that is left on the road is flying hover mobiles ,people will still try to race them. this has been going on since time began , they raced horses , chairrots , buggys so it doesn't matter.we just read about it much more because of the instant news coverage.

Just what is safe about street racing? Nothing. What is safe about doing 145+ on the street? Definitely not a damn thing. It takes one other vehicle, one other person on a bicycle, it takes one other truck to be on the road with you, and it is all over!

Hey, I am 32 and did the street racing thing when I was 16 though 18 or 19. I learned a lesson by watching another car get creamed by a non racer, just crossing an intersection. Both of the people in the street car died instantly. Hit so hard the passenger's rib cage was shoved out his other side.
