Show me or Kilbourne body???

My shop that's building My '32 Ford Coupe just gave Me the choice of those bodies.
I have no idea which is better,or are they about the same.
He said the Show Me bodies would cost Me a little more $.
Any advice would be helpful,

Yes... N&N 3W coupe body, probably the best buy out there...www.NNfiberglass.com, and don't let your builder dictate which parts you can buy...it's your money. Wescott is probably the best but it's $19,000 then Redneck which is around $12,000, N&N is around $6500 but if you shop around you can get a better deal on it.

My take on this is to first work up your proposed budget..then look for the body...my own thing is that i wish to see what I am buying before laying out the cash and if that means taking a road trip or buying a plane ticket so be it..

Sam Your right,,but I am going to wait until after the build is finished to fly out and make sure everything is up to par then make final payment.
I have been doing most of the parts buying Myself,like a nice 383 blown engine form Al's toy box,and a stage 3 Bowtie tranny,B&m tranny cooler,Moser rear end,and other things so it's not too big a deal for the body,I just want to make sure which is better for the price budget of around $7-8,000.

Yeah, the Wescott is way above what I want to spend on a body,,unless there is "such a big difference".
So You really like the N&N body over say a Kilbourne or Show Me body,,what makes that a better body in Your opinion.

Not saying that the N&N body is any better but I've seen several coupes and roadster body's by them and they are very nicely finished when you get them. The biggest thing I think is the owner of N&N....Dwayne, he just sounds like an extremely down to earth kind of guy and will help you out all he can.

The other two owners might be great guys also, just never had any dealings with them, besides the N&N doesn't cost as much and is a very high quality body. Do a lot of research on these items because you're going to spend a LOT of money getting this car built for you.....as I'm sure you're finding out.

It is more $$$ ... but it is a better body IMHO. It even looks like a 32 3W ... something the cheaper bodies do not. The cheap bodies just scream " cheap fiberglass "

The glue in windshields and the flat firewalls ... are a dead give away @ 25 feet or more. These things can be fixed ... but again ... it takes money.

I am a long time 32 Ford owner.
I have seen lots of folks jump in, spend a pile of money and end up with a car that they are so disappointed with once it is finished. ALL because they spend $$$ and did not know what they really wanted and what the 32 Ford real world was like.

32 Ford owners are generally very opinionated ( I am ) ...





And NOW ... plastic cars








A lot of folks SAY that the fiberglass ... deal is OK ... but deep down ...
most want their coupe to look like a Henry Ford coupe ... not something out of a resin can.

Go do a GOOGLE search for 1932 Ford for sale.

Lots of internet sites will show up with a good many " 32's " for sale. The vast majority of them are the cheaper fiberglass bodied vehicles. When you see " Brookville, Wescott or Gibbons " the price is almost always higher.
Original Henry cars even higher.


Basically the only difference in the build cost is the cost of the body. Most of the time, paint and body work on the lesser bodies add up to the cost of a better body. Centerline ( here on the board ) took a low cost body and he worked at it and made it a better looking body. He made the firewall look more like a 32 firewall. He made a faux piece so the windshield looks like a 32 windshield ( with a metal frame ).





He has said that he kept real good records on his expenses and he has less than 25 grand in the red coupe you see above.

I know Centerline and I believe that figure $$. He is a talented man who is a very determined indivual. He has LOTS of time invested. It can be done ... but with the rod shop rates being what they are ... it would cost mor to fix the issues than buy a better body IMHO.


Disclaimer

Flat firewalls, glued in windshields and poor fitting parts ALL bother me greatly. IF ... these things do not bother you ... then by all means proceed. I have a friend who has a Street Beast ... he knows it is junk ... but does not care. He has lots of fun with his almost looks like a 34 Ford.

body choice, for what it's worth

I have used several body manufacturers over the years and have had some great bodies,none of them were any better than N&N.

When you are paying someone to build a car, that labor isn't free. The money spent on a better body could end being a SAVINGS of money over what the shop would have charged to fine tune the cheaper body.

It isn't only about how firewalls are glued in and such, it's about how the doors and trunk are hung, are they straight, are they finished off nice or will they need a bunch of work to fit them nice enough for your expectations?

Is the body REALLY ready to paint or will it have pin holes and messed up boidy lines that need to be fine tuned, this all adds up to body labor that costs a lot of money.

I would still build some other (cheaper) car that was steel before I built a glass car but that's just me.
