Show off your model cars
Hey gang, I did a similar thread like this called Show Off your Garage a while back and it seemed like many people jumped in and posted pics.
It'd be cool if everybody who's into model cars can provide a few pics of cars they've built :) Here's one Im building right now, it's a mid 50's Ford truck. Just got the chassis done today. I'll keep on posting updates in this thread. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...odelcar001.jpg I know many of you have built these in the past or still enjoy building them so go ahead and show us whatcha got! |
right now I'm working on a '53 Chevy model. It " Was " a prebuilt model made by Jada toys, I got it from a thrift shop and was missing a lot of the trim so, I took it apart ( screws togther ) and cut the roof off of it at the chrome ( cracked back glass ) and now I'm using some laquer base glazing putty to smooth out the rear deck lid area into 1 peice of the body, and smoothing out the body. it's the black 1 with big wheels, that Walmart sold at Xmas last year. should be a pretty neat looking convertible. it's this car just black with a bit diffrent wheels ( I think I'm going with some AR Torq thrust D's if there tire diamater is big enough, there model wheels I have 4 of ) http://www.jadatoys.com/image_gen/53...53_Che_Bel.jpg

Sounds cool, post some pics! Model cars are the only way that we can afford to build all our dream rides :)

All I have is remains of my best models, my kids got a hold of'em and now they're in the boneyard (a box in the top of my closet). I do have a 1/4 scale Hemi engine model in the box that's waiting to be assembled. I'm thinking maybe I'll just keep it in the box so that someday I can sell it for big bucks to Centerline....... :P :D

I got back into models about 5 years ago. I was building scale models of my real cars. Had a hard time finding some of the kits, had to modify some to suit me. Here are some of them..
http://www.geocities.com/hlieder1/model.html I havn't built any in a couple of years. |
here is one I built in 1989... It is really showing it's age as far as panel fitment goes so don't beat it up too bad...

I guess I should get some more pictures with it blown apart... Mark |

Very nice scratch build/kit bash !!! |
Thanks guys. Appreciate the kudos.
Mike, I use an airbrush and strictly automotive paints. Laquer is what I sprayed on the GN but BC/CC works well and is not as hard on the plastic... if you want some really cool colors for cheap look at the nail polish... laquer based and sprays just fine. Pepi, Yea, MAJOR kitbash with a ton of scratchbuilt stuff. Front & rear suspensions, cage, inner door frames, hinges, front clip structure, fuel cell, etc., etc. I had 500 hrs into the build with over a 100 into the engine alone. Mark |
Wow, thats amazing. I dont think I spent more than 2 hours on that chassis alone. That's nuts.
Matt that looks like its taking shape of a killer custom, anything specific in mind for paint? Here a pic of the truck all done. A Willy's gasser or tail-dragger is next... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...der/truck2.jpg Mike |
