454 chevy punched out to 468, top-notch crank from Crower (the block/crank has been pushed past 1400 horse by previous owner, twin turbo!), Eagle H-beams with the good ARP bolts in them, TRW "12.5" pistons with domes milled to about 10.5:1 compression, Comp mech. roller with 300+ duration and .652 lift, RHS heads with 2.25/1.88 valves, Eddy Victor Jr. Manifold, AED-prepped 950 holley flowing about 1000cfm.
This in front of a loose stall converter (3000+, haven't floored it yet), Powerglide and 4.56 gears. I've brought her to 5000 rpm dipping about halfway into the throttle and the damn thing still makes me nervous. Maybe I could trade it for a small block?
1987 Buick Grand National engine in my '36 Chevy sedan. Just your garden-variety, plain-jane, vanilla, seen one you've seen 'em all 500HP Turbo'd and Intercooled 231ci V6!
I'm not gonna build it to set it on "kill" all the time. I'd like to have about 550HP with the boost turned up. Purely a street/pump gas car not a race car. I love my Turbo Buick motor but it's so expensive that I was able to sell off that stuff and freed up money to build an LS1 that a friend GAVE me.
383 cu in, 4340 Eagle crank, Eagle H beam 6" rods, SRP forged flat tops, Total Seal rings, Comp Cams XR294HR hyd. roller (.540/.562), Comp aluminum 1.6 roller rockers (corrected lift .576/.599), AFR 210 76cc race cut, Air Gap manifold, all MSD ignition w/ pro billet dist, NOS Cheater plate kit 150 shot, all topped off with a BG Mighty Demon 750 and stuffed into my 91 s-10. No actual dyno numbers but estimated at 540hp/500tq on motor and sooo close to the 700 horse mark on the bottle.
When I am finally able to start her up, I believe she will bring a whole new level of happiness to my life...=)
1 year of no driving (bus = cheap!), collecting parts, but still not done yet. Needs a few more parts, but looking at a startup ETA of roughly end of year! I can't wait!
I have it in the car now. It's a strong engine, with a very conservative cam.
Sorting out some cooling issues, changed the rear end gears. Now I have to change the exhaust (way too loud)
