1974 302 help!

i have a built 74 302 and i have misplaced some of the water pump bolts i need to know what size bolts i need to go buy ive looked all over google and no one has the sizes so if anyone happens to know the standard size of a 1974 ford 302 water pump it would be extremely helpful. thanks

Chris.........best advice is to look at the bolts you have. Most are 5/16x18 thread. So knowing what size thread you need, it's only a matter of going your local hardware store and getting the right length and size.

This SHOULD be in the basics forum. You mentioned misplacing some of the bolts, not all of them, since they use several lengths...which ones??? It would be easy to go to a wrecking yard and pull the ones you need. That's as helpful as it can be with the parameters of the question.

If your trying to figure the length you need, cut a piece of straight wire off of a coat hanger. Hold the water pump in place with a couple of bolts, stick the wire in the hole until it bottoms out. Measure. Buy bolts a smidge shorter.

Do yourself a favor, and me personally a favor. Don't try to mix and match HOME DEPOT CHI-COM crap to your car.

you can get a timing cover and water pump bolt kit out of jegs.$30 or like they said in the other post measure and get alittle shorter.or find an old engine and get the bolts. cole

i know how to find the length ive tryed all the bolts on my cart and am not sure what the thread is thats the only thing the length is no problem

the bolt should be a 5/16 bolt.i think it is a course thread but not real sure.if you have a 5/16 course and a fine thread bolt handy you can find out.just trying to help. cole

you said you lost some of the bolts.so can you take one you have not lost and use it to get more bolts.

You might try your local Ford parts dept some listings go back a ways,I just bought some steering column parts for my '54 at the Dealer.
