2001 sunfire overheating

Anyone have experiance with these motors? (2.2L)

The water pump went a few days ago so I replaced it and all was good driving around town.

Last night driving down the highway the thing overheated and boiled right over.

I figued it was the thermostat however I was forced to take the thing to the dealership as the car was quite a towing bill from home.

The dealership called said the overflow tank is not sealing (stupid plastic pressurized setup) and that the thermostat is opening and everything else is ok. Oh and that its 308 bucks to replace the overflow tank.

Whatever I'm paying the bill but just wondering if this seems right to anyone else? I'm not used to fixing these junky cars but I know there is no capacity to the cooling system at all.

Those 2.2's eat head gaskets. if it got real hot you could be in for more trouble. 300 bucks sounds like a lot for a plastic tank. I would check the junk yards.

yeah thats what I figured... but its 300 installed and the car is stranded far away from me now...

I am hoping and praying its not a head gasket but if it is the car may be rittled with bullet holes.
