350 starter, alternator, and flywheel fit a 283

i have a 283 punched 40 over, does the 350 starter, alternator, and flywheel bolt on to my engine. How big of a stall converter should i go with..

Yes......it will all fit as long as the block is drilled for the 350 starter.....It should be. Another thing...What water pump are you using...short or long? Your heads may not have the boss to mount the alternator with the long pump.

It also depends on what flywheel/flexplate you plan to use. The 153 tooth 12 inch flywheel uses the straight bolt pattern starter. The 14 inch 168 flywheel uses the staggard mount starter. You`ll need to check your block to see if it has provisions for both starters.
I don`t know what purpose you plan to use this engine for so I will say if you plan for any street duty you are way over cammed. A cam that size will need at least a 4000 stall, again way too much for the street. To run a cam that size in a small cubic inch short stroke 283 you must be planning on revving it way up there.

Also, you will need a LOT of compression to make that cam work - pistons A. H. A. P (Dome as high as possible), small chambers, etc.

I had a '66 El Camino my stepson wanted to put a long cam in; a 283. It was a DISMAL failure, ate spark plugs, never could get it jetted right. It also ate several turbo 350 transmissions.



I would be real surprised if you weren't a lot happier with a smaller cam (assuming this is not in some kind of race car)

If you find your 283 has the holes for the starter, make sure they're threaded. My 283 was a '59-model, and the inboard hole was not threaded.
