400 heads
Do you think these would be good heads for my 400 block? . 330817 cast numbers for my block

This is a stock, smog era low perf, low horsepower cylinder head. It has old design combustion chambers and poor flowing restrictive intake and exhaust ports. If you want improved performance, then is not a good choice at all.
Build your 400SBC with good -18 to -22cc D dished pistons and get a true high performance head with a 64cc combustion chamber, large high flow ports and larger valves. You'll often see this old junk offered for sale, cheap. Doesn't mean you need to buy it. Nicely built 400 SBC's make great motors, but not with a poor cylinder head. |

I have given numerous sets of the 882's away, refuse to use them, same with 624's. . They have a dual cross over channels in the center exhaust ports. This was a emission design. they tend to crack in the center exhaust port area. I would rather use a old set of 185 heads before using these castings on anything. just my opinion.
