406 SMOKING DA TIRES & OUTTA BOTH TAILS PIPES

My engine idles fine, and shows no sign of smoke, but from 3/4 throttle to WOT it smokes out both tail pipes kinda goes away after a moment then when I come off the gas smokes some more then stops completely at part throttle or idle. Any idea what would be causing this? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated!

Worn valve guides and or valve guide seals. PCV is drawing oil into the intake manifold. Intake manifold leak.

oil picked up by the pcv and laying in the intake....

WOT rich mix flushes it into the chambers.....

make a "oil accumulator" for test per this thread:

that thread also has more suggestions...

I was thinking something along the worn valve guides because it doesn't constantly smoke. The smoke sometimes has a bluesh tint to it. Someone once told me could be carb wasn't/isn't tuned correctly. Carb is 600 Holley DP.

Thanks for the idea Red, I'm going to give that a shot too.

If I remember correctly blue means oil so maybe the rings are going bad

if it was running rich it would be black... i think

Could be rings...especially since it only happens on hard throttle.

I think if it was guides or valve seals it would smoke under high vac conditions such as part throttle, not wide open. Sounds like blowby at wot.

I've had a couple of motors that after they idled for a while, as soon as you step on the throttle, they smoke for a few seconds. Or if you backed off on throttle at speed, and then stepped on it, you get smoke. Both times I replace the valve seals and that fixed it. High vacuum pulls oil into the combustion chamber that burns off when you stomp on it. Cheap fix to at least try.
