'66 Mustang Tachometer

I want a tachometer on my '66 Mustang but dont want the $400 rally-pac... I found a '65 rally-pac tach (just the tach, not the clock) and wanted to know if it would work good and accurately on my stock 6-cyl '66 Mustang. If not, is there another tach (perhaps aftermarket) that would be accurate on this kind of setup?

Any help at all is greatly appreciated!!

I would have to look at a schematic for the tach, but am pretty certain that some modification in the circuitry would have to be made for it to work with the 6.....IF it came from a V8 car. I think you could get one on a 6, but I'm not sure. If you have an original Rally Pak, even without the clock, it is probably valuable enough to allow you to buy a more accurate modern electronic Tach( the original ones are electronic too). Most aftermarket tachs are designed to operate with 4-6-8 and maybe more and less cylinders, usually with a switch or designated wiring.

ditto with woods.
Autometer has a bunch of them, plus most have a size that will install in the old space.
Tacks of todays standards usually will run from 1 cyl to 12, & change color & grafts, shift lights, digital has come a long ways.
Most hook up to the positive side of the coil , 1 for ground ,1 for lights.
Very easy to hook up.
The hardest part will be choosing what one to buy.
Do a Google search to find all that is on the market with prices.
The cheap proform is not the best, mine is on a bone-shelf.
Remember you get what you pay for.

Hi 66 Moostang
Your tach depends on weather it is a 6 or 8 cyl
What rpm does it go up to? if its 8000rpm its an 8 cyl and wont work.
If its 8 cyl mine has just packed up and I would be interested in buying
Thanks Mark

they are available for a six cylinder but (cough cough) the price is pretty steep...

http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/it...catkey=EMUSTANG

I made one once, used a SunPro mini tach,,,for me it was to small a dial sweep to be good for almost anything...

not as pretty but here's my current version of a "rally pack look"
(someday I might get around to making the saddle bridge part again)

just a instrument "cup" on the vac guage for a finished look and a (CRS!!!) solid steel type geared type hose clamp painted to match the column,,,wires and vac hose routed in the "U" for the column...
