400sbc to 350 sbc
hey guys going from a 400 sbc in my 76 k20 to a 96 or 97 caprice 350 the motor is bare no accesories and heads are on but rocker arms are in a can next to it haha. i wanted to know if i could take my 400 intake and carb and stick it on this 350 also will my fuel pump and evrything else line up ( power steering timeing chain stuff like that. i know that the flywheel flexplate wil not line up i have the one for the 350. first engine build im doing. need to know everything and steps on how to put it together thanks

96 was the last year for the caprice. The engine that came in those is the second gen. small block LT1. They are reverse cooled and older style heads and intake will not work. What is the casting number on the block? Its at the rear above where the bell housing bolts onto. Gm does make a carbed intake for the LT engines. You would need a distributor compatible with the roller cam as well.

The TBI fuel injected 350's "LO5" have a modified intake bolt pattern. The center 4 bolts are at a different angle.
The latter Caprice LT1 motor is a different beast. This is a GEN 2 engine with reverse cooling cooling flow passage revisions and the manifolds will not swap at all. There is a carbed intake manifold available that allows running a Qjet and HEI distributor on a gen II 350 as opposed to the EFI. |
