Shoot for around .002 for clearances in these heads. Most have more. To install guide plates the stock studs will have to be pulled. Then the stud bosses cut flat + about .380", the bosses threaded 7/16 c for the hex shouldered screw in stud. Guide plate is held between stud hex and head. Do not use guide plates and stock guide slots. Drill the stock guide slots round. Seal the threads of the new studs. Most machine shops or good parts stores will have the correct stud for your application. Do not use the +.100 longs with your stock valves etc.

i just got done pulling the old studs and threading the holes. on these heads should i run guide plates or just leave the factory ones there? i am going to have valve guides installed some have more play then others. i dont want any probs. i am running 1.6 to 1 roller rockers. and a lunati(00010lk)cam .480 at a 230 dur lob sep 109 and matching springs.

i am droping everything off tommorrow at the machine shop if i dont install guide plates do i still need to get the tops of the bosses milled?
