'88 350 & no mechanical Fuel pump

I have a 350 in an '88 that I want to pull. I am hoping that this motor has roller lifters & a one piece rear main seal. The motor is TPI with an electric fuel pump in the tank, so I am wondering how do I get the gas to the carb.

Do I have to locate an electric fuel pump for my '74 now?

If you'll be using the motor stock with the OEM TPI just grab the fuel pump with it.
If you'll be using a carb instead of the TPI EFI, a Carter P4594 pump (7PSI) works very well. No regulator is required.

Well hopefully this will be of a little help. Most 86 and all 350 blocks made after that are one piece rear main seal and very few had provisions for a mechanical fuel pump. Also not all one piece seal blocks have the setup for oem roller lifters. They will have the bosses in the valley to install the spider rack but they might have to be tapped for the bolts. In order to get your fuel from your tank to your carb you will have to remove the fuel pump from the gas tank and just install an electric fuel pump as close as possible to the fuel tank and make sure its for a carb with no more then 6 psi. That is what I had to do with my 96 and 86 s 10's. My 86 s10 has a two piece rear main seal block so I use a mechanical pump on it but on my 96 s 10 I have a later model 350 block and it does not have a provision for mechanical fuel pump so I use an electric fuel pump for a carburetor setup. All I had to do to each trucks is take out the pump in the tank and keep the sending unit that came with it.If I am missing anything hopefully someone else will help with info as well.
take care
Eric

86 up are ALL one pice RMS

86 were still carb(unless it is a TPI engine, no TBI until 87)so 86 blocks still have fuel pump hole and flange

some 87 up had a plate over the hole and so they still can have mech. pump

check the 88 one where the fuel pump would be mounted. it might have a plate bolted on to cover the hole.

as some 88 were factory carb like the caprices and camaros and firebirds. also some 89's were,
i alos owned an 89 caprice that was q jet from factory just an LG4 305 engine..

you didnt tell us what kind of vehicle you have and so i have to assume its an 88 firebird from your past posts, etc.

in 88 it could have come with a TBI pr TPI or a carb from factory- all in that same year on this vehicle.

which was yours ?

need some more info to help you exactly here.

also are you going to run TPI or TBI or carb on this engine in this vehicle ?

you will either need a TBI or a TPI pump, or no pump at all on the hanger assembly in the car.

either way you can use the same hanger assembly you have unless it is a carb one and you are going to run fuel injection.

in which case you will need a fuel injection hanger assmebly from an F body 82=up with fuel injection

ok wait your putting this 88 engine from the bird into a 74 something ?

74 what ? pinto ? dump truck ?

need more info again!!

wow..

Some of the early roller blocks will accept a fuel pump pushrod. The only way to tell is to try to stick one in it. Some have no hole, some have a hole that's not big enough (or so I've heard), and some have a big enough hole for the 1/2"-diameter rod to slide right on in.
