1964 Ford Fairlane 500 won't charge

I have a 1964 Ford Fairlane that was having trouble charging/maintaining a charge. I bought a brand new voltage regulator and alternator and installed them, but when a battery cable is pulled, the car won't operate. Also, the generator light stays on for no apparent reason when the car is turned off.

Any help would be appreciated, this is my dream car.

you probably have a broken wire somewhere that's what i would be looking at. could possibly be the harness from the regulator back somewhere to the alternator. JMO are you sure the wires are connecting good at the regulator ?

If the generator harness (which is what your car originally had in 1964) is routed similar to my 65 Ranchero, I would be inclined to think a wiring issue in the harness.
That silly harness runs thru the radiator support and makes a few bends, then goes thru holes with no grommets.

Could be whoever installed the alternator in place of the generator, did not wire it correctly.

I wired it myself, it's correct.

I am not sure of the Fords but when you put a new regulator on a Chev you had to cross the fields in the regulator. Maybe not for an alternator.

I'd trace every wire again...... I once had a very simular situation.... I knew the wires were right! I traced them again and what-do-ya-know I had switched the 1 and 2 wires on the alt, put them the right way and poof the, problem went away.

X2 i forgot to mention that.
